Without electricity,  there wouldn’t be light in our homes when it gets dark already or water in our showers for bath time. Without it, you wouldn’t be able to watch news or  your favorite movies without electricity. On the other hand, the cost of electricity is constantly rising, making our electriity bills not so pretty to look at. Other than that, some places are also experiencing energy crisis already.

So, what can we contribute to help? The answer is simple. Let’s conserve and save electricity. How? We’ve given you some tips below on how to save electricity.

Turn it off – Yes, turning any appliances or any electricity powered things off  when not in use saves energy, and that’s a fact.  That’s the reason why your mom and dad tells you to turn off the television or computer set when no one is using it  because  energy must be saved. Doing so also lessens the bill they pay in your household’s electricity.

CFL-light-bulbsSwitch to CFL light bulbs –  Replace your incandescent bulb  into Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs ). Doing so would also lessen CO2 in the atmosphere. In fact, half-ton of CO2 is being kept out of the atmosphere over the bulb’s life when an incandescent bulb is replaced with a CFL. What’s also great with CFL is that they last up to 10 times longer than incandescent.  Using CFL also conserves energy since it uses 50-80% less than incandescent.

Be Wise – When it comes to buying appliances for your home, choose the ones that are energy efficient. Seek out for those appliances that has the Energy Star label since these products has strict standards when it comes to energy efficiency.  Each year, an average household spends $2,000 on energy bills. Energy Star has claimed that appliances with its label can lessen the bills for about 30%.

Iron at one time – Doing all the ironing at one time, would not only save electricity, it would also save your time. You can have your ironing schedule twice in one week, instead of ironing clothes every day.

Go Au Natural – Instead of using your air conditioner to keep your house cool, why not try using natural ventilation.   Let the air flow in by opening your windows. To lessen your water bill, make use of the rain water by placing buckets under your gutters.  Use the rain water run-off in watering your plants.

We consume enormous amount of electricity everday. Think about what would happen if there will be no enough electricity for everyone anymore. That’s why there’s a great need for us to conserve energy.  Learning how to conserve electricity will not only benefit us, it will also benefit the future generation and Mother Nature.
