Aside from that, it can also cause impairment to a person’s reproductive system and to a woman’s fertility rate. It may also make them vulnerable to breast and prostate cancer in the long run.

But the sad picture here is that if a lactating mom eats or drinks something that’s contaminated with BPA, the said chemical can get into her body and can mix with her milk. This is one way that BPA is passed to babies sans the presence of baby feeding bottles. On the one hand, BPA can also pose threats to pregnant women and to the developing fetuses in their womb. The Breast Cancer Fund researches show that it can bring about physical woes to 11-month old fetuses. Unfortunately, these issues can even be with the baby from childhood to adulthood. The child can have an impaired immune system, possible kidney failure, underdeveloped neurological system, metabolism woes, and even makes his or her vulnerable to cancer. In line with this, it has been noted that 11-week old babies are most susceptible to BPA because mother’s womb is not as tough during this time of pregnancy yet. This is very true, particularly to women who don’t have any knowledge of their pregnancy. Every responsible parent dreams of having a healthy baby, but because of the presence of BPA in most of the products around them, this dream may always stay as it is. Therefore, it is very important that we get rid any product where BPA may be found.

What can we do to avoid BPA? Firstly, get rid, or at least, minimize the presence of canned goods at home. BPA is commonly present in every canned goods and canned drinks because it’s used in the lining of the can walls to keep the content in good shape. Opt for healthy and fresh options like fresh fruits and veggies found at local and supermarkets. Don’t be fooled by advertisement hype found on bodies of the can that says the juice or food contains zero fat and squeezed from fresh veggies and juice because all these have been contaminated with preservatives to lengthen its shelf life.

Secondly, use water from bottled glasses instead of plastic bottles. There are no traces of BPA in glass bottles, so it’s safer than its plastic alternative. Conversely, experts specify that plastic water bottles shouldn’t be used twice as this is the instance when chemicals are leached to its content. However, one-time usage of plastic water bottles means more and more plastics in landfills and bodies of water as some people are not too conscious about our dying planet. Hence, totally banning plastic bottled water is the key to eliminate both BPA and plastic from our environment.

Thirdly, be knowledgeable about BPA. The only way to kill a cat is to learn the ways to do it, and, in this case, the only way to eliminate and avoid contact with BPA is to learn which plastic-manufactured products have and don’t have BPA. Plastic containers have recycle codes found at its bottom. Recycle codes 3 and 7 indicate that the product has traces of BPA in it. Learning more about recycle codes could also help you fight against pollution.

Finally, use BPA-free containers for water. Brands like Kleen Kanteen, Nalgene, and Platypus all have products that are BPA-free. Nalgene recalled all of their water containers to replace them with BPA-free ones as per consumer outcry.
